Prepared by

Summary and Conclusion

The purpose of this study is to identify the pollution prevention needs of the Georgia wood products industry. This information will be used to develop programs within P2AD to address industry needs. A summary of the needs and methods of meeting needs are listed below.

  • Significant opportunity does exist within Georgia wood products manufacturers to reduce waste. Waste reduction has been accomplished at several wood products manufacturers by assessing waste generation and implementing solutions. P2AD can provide the greatest assistance by facilitating the development of programs in all mills through its technical outreach program.
  • Georgia wood products manufacturers need information to replace outdated processes with more efficient technologies. P2AD can assist by developing case studies and fact sheets describing more efficient technologies and equipment.
  • Applied research is needed to industrialized new technologies. To a lesser extent, basic research is needed. P2AD can educate wood products manufacturers on various research projects that have taken place nationally. Public -- Private partnerships should be formed to demonstrated new technologies that will reduce pollution.
